Rita Allen, 4th and 6th grade parent
I am a proud parent of a 4th grader and a 6th grader. My children have been under the leadership and instruction of the Wendell Phillips staff for four years. It has been a journey of parent teacher partnership to identify struggles, find solutions, set goals, and meet and exceed goals. My children have grown so much at Wendell Phillips.
I enrolled my children at Wendell Phillips because it is our neighborhood school; however, this school turned out to a diamond in the rough. My daughter’s 3rd grade teacher Ms. Wooton cared enough to ensure that she would be able to obtain a strong foundation in math and reading so that she could get the help she needed to be academically successful. Each year my daughter has continued to have teachers like Ms. Edwards who were supportive and encouraged her to do well.
Through LINC, the before and after school care, students are offered the ability to participate in great activities including Chess Club, Good News Club, Boy and Girl Scouts, and basketball. Tutoring is another great resource for students to study the skills learned during the day. Wendell Phillips makes it a priority to reach out to families and encourage parent involvement by hosting a monthly SAC Meeting to inform parents about upcoming events.
