Jennifer Bergmann, 2nd grade parent

We have been parents of a scholar at Crossroads Academy Central for the past three year. Our son has attended Kindergarten through the Second grade and we have been very pleased with the Mission the Leadership, Administrators and, above all, the teachers.  The knowledge and scholarship that the teachers bring as well as the dedication to the individual students is excellent.  We chose this school for its commitment to inclusion, diversity and focus upon academics, especially in science. Parents are encouraged to participate in every aspect of the school and this creates a community and an open dialogue with teachers and administrators.

One of the best aspects of this school is the commitment to providing a framework for learning, but also of student discipline, not only in academics, but in respect for themselves, their teachers, and each other.  Students wear uniforms, which I was initially opposed to, but have found it to be a very positive tool that eliminates distraction and drama. The scholars have access to remedial instruction as needed as well as talented reading and other specialty instructors.

The extended day offers scholars a chance to pursue “passion projects” where they can use multimedia to explore something that they are passionate about.  All students have access to technology and learning programs on IPads, which also teaches them responsibility for the property and appropriate behavior when utilizing the technology. The location of the school, directly in the downtown area, offers the students a school in a busy metropolitan setting and access to amenities such as the KC Public Library, The KC Symphony, Union Station, and The Folly Theater.
