Points of Pride
- Carver’s students leave sixth grade truly bilingual and bi-literate in both English and Spanish.
- Students in Kindergarten and Grade 1 receive virtually all of their core instruction in Spanish. In grades 2-6 Mathematics and Science are taught in Spanish, while English Language Arts (Reading and Writing) and Social Studies are taught in English. Special classes (Music, Art, Physical Education, Computers, and Library) are primarily taught in English. Spanish literacy is maintained in grades 2-6.
- Carver is proud of the diversity of its students with families having heritage from many cultures and countries. Carver’s parents are very supportive of their children’s education.
Carver Dual Language Elementary is a KCPS signature school. To be eligible students must live within the KCPS boundaries and be five years of age by September 1 to enroll in kindergarten.
In grades K-1, the only enrollment requirement is residence in the Kansas City Public Schools boundaries. In grades 2-6 students must be able to speak Spanish and have basic reading skills in Spanish. Students requesting admittance at Grade 2 and above take a grade level appropriate reading screen/test in Spanish and visit informally with one of our teachers to evaluate Spanish language in general.
