Student Perspective from Class of ‘24 ALIHS Graduate Vivian Nodland:
My first year at Académie Lafayette International High School our grade consisted of a few students and we grew into a close-knit group. For two summers, I had the opportunity to work at Académie Lafayette as a teacher’s aide at the elementary campuses. I was provided many volunteer jobs as a part of the IB Diploma Program as well. I could tell our teachers made it a priority to help every one of us build our resumes. Every spring, I was emailed with summer job and volunteer opportunities that were handpicked for me.
While the staff that taught us changed year to year, a few staff members became really important to us. Our history teacher, Ms. Hynes; our counselor, Ms. Seely; and the IB coordinator, Ms. Wilson, were with us our entire high school career. The support of the staff at ALIHS allowed me to pursue an alternative approach to the traditional American college experience: studying in France at a French university. I left for France in August, in part due to the support I had from ALIHS. I am attending Université Paris Nanterre, where I was accepted due to my IB diploma and could manage to apply, take a French competency test and get a visa for, with the help of ALIHS supporting my plans.
