Leslie Friday, 9th and 10th grade parent

As a parent of both a freshman and sophomore here at Southeast High school I have experienced both some good and bad things.  I truly believe that with the continued push from Dr. Whitt to create a positive atmosphere for the students, staff, and parents that Southeast can be and will be great.  I chose to enroll my children in Southeast to give them a chance at some of the programs that are offered here such as the ROTC program the dance class as well as the awesome band.

I do believe that some of the staff should work on not separating the children with the school within a school choice, to hear things like those kids or bad or the AC PREP kids are better is not ok.  I would like to see the staff work on being one family as opposed to the separation, I can say the leadership seems to be on one page and that helps with the culture of student discipline.  The school facilities could use some updating as the custodians don’t seem to keep the restrooms clean, the building temperature is off, the front office could stand some updates with a cleaner more organized look.

As for parent involvement I think the opportunities are slim to none and when there is an opportunity the notice is to short.  There are some additional programs such as mentoring groups, band, and dance team that I think are beneficial provided the students take advantage of it.  Again I believe with some restructuring, some team work, consistency and better communication Southeast can be and will be great.
