Susan VanSyckle, 4th and 5th grade parent

Making the decision of where our children would receive the best education was initially a difficult process. We had looked at several schools, both public and private, when we heard about Whitefield Academy, a Classical Christian School. We had to google what a classical education meant (a historical model based on the trivium: grammar, logic, and rhetoric). From the moment we walked in the doors we saw first-hand how the classical model aligns with students’ intellectual development to create critical thinkers, clear communicators, and compassionate leaders.

Our kids started Whitefield in Pre-K and Kindergarten; today they are in 4th and 5th grade. One thing we love about Whitefield is the close community that is formed within the student body, faculty, and even the parents. Located near 435 and Holmes, a renovated church houses the Pre-K through 12th grade student body. If you stroll down the halls, you’ll see high schoolers high-fiving the 2nd graders, a high school class sitting around a conference table led in deep discussion, and an art class exercising their creativity with clay. Parental involvement is welcome and encouraged. With a 10:1 teacher/student ratio, most of Whitefield’s faculty have advanced degrees and many years of educational experience.

In addition to Whitefield’s solid, faith-based education, our kids have access to sports teams to build Christian character both on and off the field, community service projects to care for our city, cultural trips, mission trips for students to see the world as bigger than their backyards, and leadership opportunities such as Student Council and Debate teams. Fine Arts, Music, and Theatre are also an important part of Whitefield including Choir, Latin, art classes, and an annual Shakespeare production.

Our family is so thankful that six years ago we found an amazing learning environment for our children and a community for our entire family.
