Bring the World to Your Classroom
Want to spark global interest before students apply? We’d love to:
- Give a short presentation or table at a student event
-
Host a classroom visit with international exchange guests — giving students a primary-source window into global cultures without leaving school
Interested? Reach out to schedule a visit, and feel free to pass my info along to any colleagues who’d want in too!
About the organization:
Global Ties KC has served as the premier connection point between the Heartland and the world for over 70 years, promoting citizen diplomacy and relationship building through cultural exchange. Professional exchanges and local student programs provide pathways for everyone to access the cultural, professional and economic opportunities generated by person-to-person global engagement.
About the program:
The Youth Diplomats Institute (YDI) is a selective, school year-long leadership and career development experience for high school students who want to think globally and lead locally. Through hands-on learning, mentorship and real-world exposure to international issues and careers, students gain the confidence and skills to step boldly into their futures.
Hosted by Global Ties KC, YDI connects students to Kansas City’s global leaders, organizations, and opportunities — building a network of informed, engaged young professionals invested in our region’s future.
Who should apply to become a Youth Diplomat?
High school students graduating in or after 2027 from the Kansas City area who are:
1. Open-minded and curious about people and cultures from around the world, and
2. Seeking ways to improve their local communities and expand their professional skills.
There is no GPA minimum for this FREE program, and prior international experience is not required. Global Ties KC seeks active participation from students who are curious, motivated learners dedicated to personal improvement. Meetings take place one Saturday per month in person at various locations throughout the KC Metro from October 2026 through May 2027.
